Rabbi Adam Lavitt

Meet Adam

Imagine a journey where you are empowered to explore the depths of your own soul while finding inspiration from the world around you. Picture a companion who walks beside you, offering guidance and support as you navigate the path towards wisdom. I am that passionate guide, dedicated to helping individuals connect with their inner and outer sources of wisdom. In addition to creating transformative experiences that unlock the true potential within each person as Director of Learning at Jewish Studio Project, I offer spiritual companionship to seekers near and far in my private practice. My work as a spiritual director even caught the attention of the New York Times.

Throughout my career, I have served as a spiritual leader in various settings, including congregations, college campuses, and healthcare facilities. I co-founded the Movement Minyan, a groundbreaking approach that brings Jewish liturgy to life through embodied practice. My innovative contributions led to being selected as the National Havurah Summer Institute's Liturgist in Residence in 2013. As a CLAL Rabbis without Borders Fellow I offered spiritual leadership to the unaffiliated Jewish community in Providence (2014-15). To hone my craft, I sought out fellowships and training programs, including the JOIN for Justice Clergy Fellowship (2015-16), the Boston Bridges Fellowship (2017-18), and the Davennen Leadership Training Institute (2018-2020).

After a transformative semester abroad at Oxford University (2003), I graduated cum laude from Kenyon College in 2004. In 2012, I was ordained at and received a Master’s in Jewish Education from Hebrew College Rabbinical School, where I was also the school’s first recipient of a certificate in Pastoral Care. Ever committed to personal and professional growth, in 2017, I completed training as a Spiritual Director through Hebrew Union College’s Bekhol Levavkha training program in 2017, and in 2019 became a Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through the Association of Professional Chaplains. My teachings, born from a wealth of knowledge and experience, have been widely recognized. My words have found their way into publications such as Evolve, Huffington Post, MyJewishLearning, and The Wisdom Daily. I live with my wonderful husband Alex and son Omri, in Philadelphia, PA.
