 Spiritual Companionship

I currently maintain a small practice and am not actively accepting new clients. If you're interested in working together, I'm happy to add you to a waiting list or connect you with other spiritual directors who may be a good fit. You can also schedule a consultation to explore possibilities.

Many of us carry an inner sense of what matters most — a compass pointing toward meaning, connection, and wholeness. Whether you call it God, Spirit, the Universe, ancestral wisdom, or simply the Web of Life, this inner guidance can lead us toward clarity and a deeper sense of purpose.

I work with people from diverse religious and non-religious backgrounds exploring their spiritual lives and seeking deeper connection. Each person's spiritual journey is unique. I create space for exploration, questioning, and growth. Through spiritual direction, you may find greater meaning, attune to your deepest yearnings, and let these movements guide your daily life.

I trained as a Spiritual Director through Hebrew Union College's Bekhol Levavkha program in 2017. After serving in this role at Hebrew College Rabbinical School and Hebrew Union College, I now maintain a small private practice, accompanying individuals as they clarify questions, reconnect with what matters most, and find their way forward. I offer a non-judgmental space for exploration and healing. My approach draws on embodiment, poetry, sacred texts, and creative practice. I welcome people integrating psychedelic experiences and work with awareness of religious trauma.

I meet with clients monthly via Zoom or, for those in Philadelphia, occasionally in person. If you're interested in exploring whether we might work together, you can schedule a free 30-minute consultation or review the FAQs below.

“Working with Adam over the past year has been a joy, a grounding rod, and a catalyst for inner growth. Each session, he meets me where I am…and helps me tune into God's presence in that space. Over our time together, Adam has helped me nurture a prayer practice, work with elemental energies, and make meaning of dreams. And when my spirit just needs to vent, or pause, or simply ask why, he holds space for that, too. I would absolutely say that my relationship with God has grown deeper and broader through our time together.”

FAQs

  • If you find yourself reflecting on this question, you may be on the cusp of a significant journey. In our fast-paced and often disconnected world, seeking spiritual companionship can be a transformative choice. But is it the right path for you?

Reflect on your spiritual yearnings - are you seeking a deeper connection with something greater than yourself? Have you been craving a deeper sense of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment? If so, spiritual companionship can provide the guidance and support needed to navigate your spiritual journey.

Ultimately, the decision rests with you. It requires honest self-reflection, an open heart, and readiness to explore. Trust your intuition.

  • Spiritual direction offers a safe space to explore your spiritual journey. I help you navigate questions of faith, belief, and meaning, supporting self-awareness and discernment. This practice fosters contemplation and reflection, leading to inner peace and a deeper relationship with the sacred — however you understand it.

  • Spiritual direction welcomes seekers from all backgrounds, including those who don't identify with traditional religious beliefs. At its core, this practice helps you explore purpose, meaning, and connection — centered on your values and authentic self.

Our work together creates space for life's deeper questions: What matters most? How do I navigate suffering and seek joy? You're not expected to adopt any particular framework. Instead, you'll have a companion who listens deeply, asks thoughtful questions, and offers practices tailored to your journey.

  • Working with a spiritual companion and talking to one's clergy-person are two distinct avenues through which individuals seek guidance and support on their spiritual journey. While both can play valuable roles, their approaches and focuses differ. A clergy-person, often serving as a religious leader, offers pastoral care and guidance within the context of a specific faith tradition. They are knowledgeable about religious teachings and rituals, providing spiritual counsel based on established doctrines.

On the other hand, working with a spiritual director involves an exploration of one's unique relationship with the divine and personal spiritual growth. As a spiritual director, I am a trained professional who seeks to create a safe and non-judgmental space to support individuals in deepening their connection to the sacred and discerning their own spiritual path. This process can be liberating, fostering self-discovery and empowering individuals to access their inner wisdom.

The advantages of working with me as your spiritual director lie in my ability to facilitate self-reflection, provide client-centered support, and assist in developing a more authentic and meaningful spiritual practice tailored to each client. Our work together can offer you an opportunity to navigate doubts, explore complex spiritual questions, and experience a more holistic approach to spirituality.

  • I meet with clients for twelve, one-hour sessions over the year on a monthly basis on Zoom or by phone (or, if in Philadelphia, can meet in person). My spiritual direction practice is held throughout the week, typically during the first half of the day (Eastern Time). Once in a while I can arrange a meeting at a different time or day of the week.
